The Bulgarian Embassy and the National Liberal Club in London held an event on the occasion of 22 September, the Day of the Independence of Bulgaria. The members of this prestigious London Club were informed of the role of the prominent British politician and four-time Prime Minister William Gladstone, who raised his voice in defence of the Bulgarian cause after the April Uprising of 1876 and the right of the Bulgarian People for freedmen and independence.

The event was opened by the Chair of the Liberal Club Mr Gordon Lishman CBE FRSA. Ambassador Tihomir Stoytchev, Professor David Bebbington, and Francis Gladstone, Great-Grandson of William Gladstone, spoke about this memorable period of the history of Bulgaria.
