05 December 2024 News

On 1 December 2024, the film "Because I Love Bad Weather" (2024), directed and written by Jana Lekarska, was screened at the fourth edition of the traditional European Film Festival in Stockholm. The Bulgarian participation was initiated by the Embassy in Stockholm and in cooperation with the National Film Centre at the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The European Film Festival is organised by the Representation of the European Commission in Sweden, as well as Embassies and Cultural Institutes of the EU Member States in the Swedish capital. This year, 12 EU Member States have participated in the event.

The Bulgarian film was presented in front of a large Bulgarian and foreign audience in the packed Zita 2 cinema hall. The film is the winner of the Audience Award at Sofia Film Festival in 2024 and is part of a selection of works of European cinema awarded at national and international level.

The main roles of Irina and Boris are played by Neda Spasova and Vladimir Mihailov, who meet again on set after partnering in the series Brothers.  Because I Love Bad Weather is also the big cinematic comeback of generations of Bulgarians' favourite Boryana Puncheva, who after her landmark performances in Ladies Invite and The Prince's 13th Fiancée, makes an impressive return as the mysterious Mrs Temenuga. Veselin Rankov embodies the role of the bohemian Dimo, and Ivan Bernev has a special part in this cinematic story.

The soundtrack of the film includes legendary Bulgarian songs, the work of the great Bulgarian composer Boris Karadimchev: the new version of "The Love We Can't Do Without" by Tangra, "My Love" by Bogdana Karadocheva, "In Some Hour" by Margarita Hranova. They are joined by Veselin Marinov with "One Moment of Paradise" and Vlado Mihailov with his band Rewind and their single "Crazy for You".

The tape was shot last year in some of the most beautiful places on the Bulgarian southern Black Sea coast - Varvara, Ahtopol and Sinemorets.

The Embassy would like to express its sincere gratitude to Mr. Petar Todorov, the Executive Director of the National Film Centre for his outstanding assistance in realizing the opportunity to present one of the latest Bulgarian films in Stockholm, and for the support he has once again given to the strong representation of Bulgaria in Sweden.
