Official opening of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Bulgaria in Poznan

On February 6, 2026, in the "Collegium Minus" hall of the Adam Mickiewicz University of Poznań, the official opening of the new Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Bulgaria took place, with headquarters in the city of Poznań and consular district in the Greater Poland Voivodeship. Professor Rafal Dimczyk was appointed Honorary Consul - an established scholar, one of the leading professors related to Bulgarian studies at the University of Poznań, owner of the tourist company "Balkan Travel", which cooperates with the largest Polish tour operators in organizing visits to Bulgaria.

The ceremony was hosted by the Rector of the University - Prof. Bogumila Kaniewska, Chair of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools of Poland (2024-2028).

The event brought together nearly 200 official guests: MPs, representatives of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, local authorities, the Orthodox Church, businessmen, academic and cultural circles, Bulgarians living in the city and the region of the Greater Poland Voivodeship.

Ambassador Margarita Ganeva welcomed the guests and shared her satisfaction with the fact that Bulgaria is opening its fifth honorary consulate in Poland, and in such an important economic, academic and cultural center as Poznan. The potential of the relationship between the partner cities of Poznan and Plovdiv was emphasized, and the opportunities for activating economic, transport and tourist ties between the two cities, which have a long tradition and experience as fair centers for Poland and Bulgaria, were outlined. A variety of universities and cultural centers that Poznan and Plovdiv provide – represent rich opportunities for academic and cultural cooperation between the Plovdiv and Greater Poland regions.

Ambassador Margarita Ganeva presented the new Honorary Consul with the Consular Patent, issued by the Bulgarian government accompanied by a Bulgarian national flag, as well as the Exequatur from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The appointment aims to strengthen trade and economic cooperation, tourism and cultural ties, as well as to support the Bulgarian community in the Greater Poland Voivodeship region.

The Honorary Consul gave a 20-minute special presentation of Bulgaria with video materials from his travels, contacts and activities so far in our country, which was followed by a literary reading of an Old Bulgarian chronicle and a text from the work of Viktor Paskov translated into Polish. The Bulgarian Cultural Institute organized an accompanying piano recital by the Bulgarian composer and jazz pianist Lyubomir Denev. The ceremony was followed by a short cocktail party.
