Bulgaria supports the Ambassador For A Day Initiative in Beirut

31 May 2024 News

On 28.05.2024 the Residence of the British Ambassador in Beirut hosted a special ceremony for the winners of the “Ambassador For a Day” competition. The British Ambassador to Lebanon, H.E. Mr.  Hamish Cowell and the Ambassador of Canada, H.E. Ms. Stefanie McCollum, congratulated the winners and together with more than 22 Ambassadors and heads of UN Agencies in Lebanon handed over certificates to the participants.

The winners are given the opportunity to shadow their respective ambassadors by joining them and their Embassies’ teams for a day, thus acquiring a first-hand experience in the word of diplomacy.

The Bulgarian Ambassador for A Day, Ms. Sarah Dergham shadowed H.E. Ambassador Iassen Tomov on 22.05.2024. As a member of the Embassy’ team together with a delegation from the Bulgarian MFA she participated in a visit to the “Gibran” Museum in Bshari. For a third year in a row, within the Bulgarian Development Aid framework, the Bulgarian Embassy to Beirut cooperates with the “Gibran” Museum towards restoration and conservation of the library and the paintings of the world famous writer, painter, thinker and philosopher.

The “Ambassador for A Day” initiative is initially launched by the UK Embassy in Sofia in 2018 to celebrate the International Women’s Day 8 March and to support inclusion of young girls and women to the world of diplomacy and international politics.
