The Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Beijing welcomed in a new outer-look May 24th, the Day of the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture and of Slavic literature, by inventing a new modern design of the information boards, embodying the Bulgarian spirit. The interactive panels, contain a QR code leading to the websites of the Еmbassy and the official Bulgarian tourist portal.

Another creative aspect of the Embassy’s new look is the Bulgarian embroidery mosaic that decorates the two symmetrical pillars of the facade. The eye-catching work of art combines elements of traditional Bulgarian embroidery and images of roses. The artwork has been designed under the supervision of Prof. Fan Di’an, President of both the Chinese Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) and the China Artists Association. The motives of the embroidery mosaic have been created by Prof. Wang Zhangxing, vice-dean of CAFA’s Faculty of murals and by Prof. Zhang Yunjia, supervisor of the Master’s program at CAFA‘s Faculty of murals. The creation of the design has been done with the full support and coordination of the Embassy. For the purpose of incorporating the culture and spirit into the mosaic art, the professors conducted a thorough research of the Bulgarian traditional art and folklore. The occasion of decorating the Embassy with this beautiful artwork was the 60^th anniversary of the Embassy’s relocation to the current premises.

This Bulgarian embroidery mosaic is a vivid embodiment of the Bulgarian-Chinese friendship and cultural exchange, and yet another example of the longstanding cooperation between CAFA and Bulgarian universities with art majors. In order to better highlight the effect of the artwork, bright lights with the colors of the Bulgarian flag also have been placed.
