Mayor of Ottawa proclaims 24 of May 2025 as Bulgarian Cultural Heritage Day
23 May 2025 NewsThe Mayor of City of Ottawa Mr. Mark Sutcliffe proclaimed 24 May 2025 as Bulgarian Cultural Heritage Day in the Canadian capital. The proclamation was launched thanks to the efforts of the National Capital Region Bulgarian Community and the kind assistance of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Ottawa.
It notes that May 24 is the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian alphabet created in the early 9th century, of education and culture, and of the Slavic literature. It also draws attention that the Bulgarian presence in Canada dates back to the beginning of the 20th century and has provided valuable contribution to the development of the Canadian society.
The adopted document proclaims the celebration of the rich cultural heritage embedded in the Bulgarian alphabet as the first Cyrillic alphabet - a symbol of lasting and sustainable cultural and linguistic heritage.
