Bulgarian Embassy in Brussels welcomed graduates of the Bulgarian School "Peyo Yavorov" in Brussels

On 24 June 2025, the graduating students from the “Peyo Yavorov” Bulgarian School in Brussels, accompanied by their parents and teachers, were welcomed at the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Belgium to celebrate the end of the school year and the completion of their secondary education. The event served as a meaningful and emotional tribute to the efforts, perseverance, and dedication of young Bulgarians abroad in preserving their language, culture, and national identity.
Mrs. Veneta Zayakova, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. and Consul, addressed the students and their families with warm words and expressed her pride in their achievements. She acknowledged the invaluable role of teachers and the support of families in nurturing a strong sense of national belonging. Mrs. Zayakova emphasized the educational and cultural mission of Bulgarian schools abroad, describing their role as vital for the preservation of the Bulgarian language and cultural heritage. She reaffirmed the Embassy’s ongoing commitment to supporting Bulgarian schools in Belgium, highlighting the importance of their contribution to the development of a cohesive and engaged Bulgarian community abroad.
Mr. Semo Semov, Counselor at the Embassy, encouraged the graduates to pursue their goals with courage and determination, and to remain guided by the values of knowledge, responsibility, and civic engagement.
The program also featured a presentation by Mrs. Veselina Zhelyazkova, Attaché at the embassy, who delivered an inspiring speech about the role and relevance of Bulgarian diplomacy in today’s global context. She introduced students to highlights from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ official art collection housed in the Embassy, and sparked their interest in diplomacy by outlining potential career paths within Bulgaria’s foreign service. “This reception for graduating students is set to become a tradition,” she noted, underscoring the importance of sustained engagement between Bulgarian institutions and the younger generation abroad.
Dr. Miglena Dikova-Milanova, Director of the “Peyo Yavorov” School and lecturer at Ghent University, expressed her sincere appreciation to the Embassy for its ongoing support and hospitality over the years. In her address, she congratulated the graduates for their resilience, dedication, and maturity, and encouraged them to remain curious, confident, and proud of their Bulgarian heritage.
The students also shared their personal stories, reflections, and aspirations for the future. The event unfolded in a warm and uplifting atmosphere, becoming a true celebration of learning, community spirit, and the enduring cultural ties with Bulgaria.
