Children from the three Bulgarian schools in Brussels, their parents and teachers, Bulgarians, paid tribute to the life and legacy of the Apostle of Bulgarian freedom – Vasil Levski.
Flowers were laid in front of the bas-relief of the hero on the building of the consular service at the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium.
The commemorative ceremony began with a short welcoming speech to those present by the Consul Ms. Veneta Zayakova and continued with the performance of poems and songs about Levski by the students from the primary grades of the European School - Laeken and the Bulgarian National School in Brussels.
The director of the oldest Bulgarian school "Peio Yavorov" in Brussels, Mrs. Miglena Dikova-Milanova, delivered a speech about the life and work of the Apostle, and the students Blagovesta Draganova and Elitsa Gospodinova from the twelfth grade at the school read author's essays, refracted through the perception of the modern young generation for the national hero. The school's program ended with a recital of Hristo Botev's poem "The Hanging of Vasil Levski" by eighth grade students and a performance of "You are beautiful, my forest", sung by all those present.
More than fifty people gathered at the celebration of the anniversary of the death of Vasil Leski, a testament that the self-sacrifice of the Apostle of Freedom is alive in the memory of Bulgarians and his ideals of freedom, justice and equality are followed to this day.
