On January 13, the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg hosted the opening of the exhibition “Paradise is Now” by the talented young Bulgarian artist Alexander Panayotov. The exhibition, which will be open to visitors until April 11, presents thirty exceptional paintings specially curated for this prestigious venue.
This exhibition was realized through the initiative of Ms. Mariyana Kancheva, Bulgarian Judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union, and under the patronage of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Brussels, which is also accredited to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
It showcases Panayotov’s artistic talent and emphasizes the importance of cultural exchange within the European Union as a cornerstone of contemporary European identity. It is part of a series of exhibitions held in European institutions under the patronage of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Brussels.
The exhibition was officially inaugurated by the President of the Court of Justice of the EU, Mr. Koen Lenaerts, Judge Mariyana Kancheva, and Ms. Veselina Zhelyazkova, Political Affairs Attaché with a focus on cultural and public diplomacy at the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
In his opening address, Mr. Koen Lenaerts made a compelling comparison between law and art, noting that just as legal professionals interpret the law, artists transform abstract concepts into visual works that invite reflection. He expressed his pleasure in presenting the work of a young Bulgarian artist who embodies the future of Europe and the generations that will contribute to its strength and prosperity. Mr. Lenaerts also pointed out that Alexander Panayotov is not only an artist but also a jurist and psychologist. He described the artist’s works as abstract and multilayered, emanating light and harmony, much like the “gold” of the institution in which they are displayed.
Ms. Veselina Zhelyazkova welcomed the guests on behalf of the Embassy’s Chargé d'Affaires, Ms. Veneta Zayakova, and expressed shared pride in presenting the inspiring works of a young Bulgarian talent at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. She emphasized that Panayotov’s works not only bring emotional depth but also offer a unique perspective through abstract forms and vibrant colors, reflecting both the beauty of nature and the complexity of the human experience. “Promoting Bulgarian talent abroad is a cornerstone of our diplomatic efforts,” she stated. “We are proud to support initiatives like this one, which provide a platform for our young artists to share their creativity and contribute to the cultural exchange on an international level.” She extended a sincere gratitude to the hosts, particularly to the President of the Court of Justice of the European Union and to Judge Mariyana Kancheva for their initiative and kind invitation
Judge Mariyana Kancheva remarked that in his works, Alexander Panayotov not only highlights the beauty of nature but also explores deeper connections between humanity and the natural world. She emphasized that the bright, positive colors, plant motifs, and symbols he employs transport the viewer to a more beautiful and inspiring world, filled with joy and vitality.
The event was attended by Professor Plamen Panayotov, Bulgarian judges Alexander Arabadzhiev and Alexander Kornesov, as well as other members of the European Court and their collaborators, the Bulgarian Honorary Consul in Luxembourg, Mr. Dimitrios Zois, diplomats, religious leaders, members of the Bulgarian community, and cultural figures.
“Paradise is Now” invites the audience to embrace the idea that, despite the unrelenting passage of time, there are moments when one can experience paradise hic et nunc (here and now), through the vivid colors and emotions captured by Alexander Panayotov’s art.
The exhibition is open to visitors with prior passes, which can be obtained from the security at the Court of Justice of the EU. Do not miss the opportunity to enjoy this truly inspiring and beautiful experience!
