On February 22, at the initiative of the Bulgarian side, a working meeting was held in the Office of the Ombudsman, where Ambassador Anastasov and Mr. Tatoyan exchanged views on the role and functions of the institution and reviewed the joint cooperation.

During the conversation, Arman Tatoyan expressed gratitude for the support from the Bulgarian Embassy within the Bulgarian Development Aid for increasing the capacity of the activity and improving the scope of Ombudsman’s Office work.

Ambassador Anastasov stated that our diplomatic mission is pleased to note the increase in capacity and efficiency in the work of Ombudsman's Office, as well as the increased awareness of Armenian society about the Ombudsman's functions and capabilities and providing real assistance to citizens.

The ambassador stressed that the role of the public defender is key for democratic societies, as well as for overcoming the difficulties in upholding the rule of law and protecting human rights. Ambassador Anastasov praised Mr. Tatoyan's active work during his tenure as ombudsman.

For his part, Tatoyan thanked for the opinion expressed and mentioned that he will continue to try to support the institution and will work to strengthen the principles of the rule of law in Armenian society. He expressed an extremely positive assessment of the high level of our bilateral interstate relations, as well as the effective interaction and cooperation with the office of the Bulgarian Ombudsman. He noticed that he had held a number of fruitful consultative talks and exchange of experience with his Bulgarian counterpart, for which he was grateful and hoped that his successor would continue to develop these relations.

Ambassador Anastasov expressed the readiness of Bulgaria and the Embassy in Yerevan to continue to support the establishment of the principles of the rule of law and human rights in Armenia and pointed that will continue to work actively to build partnership and cooperative talks for mutual interests.

At the end of the meeting, the Ambassador wished to Mr. Tatoyan another successful professional realization and application of his experience in favor of developing democratic society of Armenia.
