Bulgaria's participation in the High-Level Meeting of the UN General Assembly

On 16–17 December, Bulgaria participated in the UN General Assembly High-Level Meeting on the overall review of the implementation of the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+20). In her statement, the Permanent Representative of Bulgaria H.E. Ms. Gergana Karadjova reaffirmed Bulgaria’s long-standing and consistent engagement in the WSIS process and its strong support for the multistakeholder model of Internet governance, highlighting its role as one of the early proponents of this inclusive approach. Bulgaria underscored the importance of preserving an open, global, interoperable and secure Internet that serves people and supports sustainable development.

On December 15 Bulgaria participated in the UN Security Council Open Debate "Leadership for Peace" dedicated to the upcoming selection process of the UN Secretary-General and the strengthening of the multilateralism. In her statement, Ambassador Gergana Karadjova, Permanent Representative of Bulgaria to the United Nations, highlighted the important responsibility UN Member States have in the selection process and called for the nomination of candidates who meet the highest standards of political and moral integrity, have a clear and bold vision for advancing the international cooperation and resolve to bring to the attention of the Security Council issues that may pose a threat to international peace and security.

Bulgaria Marks 70 Years of UN Membership at High-Level Event on the Future of Multilateralism

Bulgaria, together with 15 other UN Member States, co-hosted the high-level event “Celebrating 80 Years of the United Nations: Revitalizing Multilateralism in a Changing World” as part of the commemoration of its 70th anniversary as a UN Member State. The meeting gathered Member States, UN leaders, and stakeholders to reflect on the achievements and shortcomings of the multilateral system and to consider priorities for strengthening global governance in the context of both the UN’s 80th anniversary and Bulgaria’s own milestone year. Bulgaria was represented by its Permanent Representative to the UN, H.E. Ambassador Gergana Karadjova.

The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Bulgaria to the United Nations, Ambassador Gergana Karadjova, Presented her Credentials to the UN Secretary-General

On 3 December 2025, at an official ceremony held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the newly appointed Permanent Representative of the Republic of Bulgaria to the United Nations, H.E. Ambassador Gergana Karadjova, presented her credentials to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, H.E. Mr. António Guterres. During the meeting that followed, Ambassador Karadjova reaffirmed Bulgaria’s strong support for the United Nations and the role of multilateralism as the path toward peace, respect for human rights, and sustainable development. Ambassador Karadjova stressed that as Bulgaria marks the 70th anniversary of its UN membership and the Organization celebrates its 80th anniversary, it is of paramount importance to ensure a successful revitalization of the UN, including with the help of the UN80 initiative. She expressed Bulgaria’s commitment to engaging with the UN in order to help reinvigorate its capacity for making a difference in the world and reaffirmed Bulgaria’s prioritization for the upholding of human rights, including women’s empowerment and children’s rights. Ambassador Karadjova also highlighted Bulgaria’s constructive role in promoting peace and security both within the UN and in the regional and wider European context.
