Ambassador Gergana Karadjova met with Li Junhua, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs.

Ambassador Karadjova reaffirmed Bulgaria’s strong commitment to the 2030 Agenda, while noting that the world is falling behind on the achievement of many of the Sustainable Development Goals due to intersecting climate, geopolitical, economic and demographic challenges. The Permanent Representative underlined that the main challenge today is not a lack of commitments, but a lack of implementation capacity, coherence and adequate financing.

The meeting also addressed the National Development Programme “Bulgaria 2030,” which is fully aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. In their discussion, Ambassador Karadjova and the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs also placed emphasis on Bulgaria’s presentation of its Second Voluntary National Review at the High-Level Political Forum in July 2025.

Bulgaria remains committed to working closely with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the EU and international partners to accelerate progress on sustainable development and to ensure that multilateral cooperation delivers tangible results for people.
