On January 9, Ambassador Gergana Karadjova, Permanent Representative of Bulgaria to the United Nations in New York, held a protocol meeting with Annalena Baerbock, President of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, on the occasion of Ambassador Karadjova assuming her duties of Permanent Representative.
Ambassador Karadjova expressed her support for the priorities of the President of the General Assembly and assured her interlocutor of Bulgaria's readiness to contribute to their implementation, emphasizing that Bulgaria is co-chair of the Group of Friends of Children and Sustainable Development Goals, and that as regards the implementation of the Pact for the Future, our country has assumed within the EU the role of championing on issues related to the rights of the child and the fight against disinformation.
In response, Ms. Berbock congratulated Ambassador Karadjova on her appointment as Permanent Representative in New York and on the high professional recognition and important responsibilities associated with this position, expressing her satisfaction that Bulgaria, as a member of the EU, is represented at the UN in New York by a woman.
The two interlocutors also discussed the process of selecting the Secretary-General of the Organization and the need strong candidates to be presented, emphasizing that it is long past time for a woman to be elected Secretary-General of the United Nations.
