Bulgaria's participation in the High-Level Meeting of the UN General Assembly
17 December 2025 NewsOn 16–17 December, Bulgaria participated in the UN General Assembly High-Level Meeting on the overall review of the implementation of the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+20).
In her statement, the Permanent Representative of Bulgaria H.E. Ms. Gergana Karadjova reaffirmed Bulgaria’s long-standing and consistent engagement in the WSIS process and its strong support for the multistakeholder model of Internet governance, highlighting its role as one of the early proponents of this inclusive approach. Bulgaria underscored the importance of preserving an open, global, interoperable and secure Internet that serves people and supports sustainable development.
The Bulgarian statement also highlighted national experience in promoting openness and access to knowledge, as well as the development of a dynamic and liberal Internet ecosystem. Bulgaria stressed the need to avoid fragmentation of the Internet and to further strengthen the role of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) within the multistakeholder framework.
As the international community marks twenty years of WSIS, Bulgaria reaffirmed its firm commitment to a human-centric approach to digital governance, grounded in innovation, inclusiveness and the full respect for human rights.
