Charge D’Affaires of the Embassy of Syria has 72 hours to leave Bulgaria

29 May 2012 News

The Charge D’Affaires of the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Sofia, Salah Soukkar, will be notified today in a note from the Foreign Ministry that he must leave Bulgaria within the next 72 hours.

This step is being taken in response to the monstrous killing in Houla of more than 100 people, committed by the regime in Damascus, and the continued violence against civilians in the Arab country. Along with the Charge D’Affaires, two other diplomats from the Embassy will have to leave Bulgaria.

In parallel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to withdraw diplomatic staff from the Bulgarian Embassy in Damascus and to suspend the operations of the Bulgarian diplomatic mission in the Syrian capital.
