Celebration of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Cuba

On 16 October, on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Cuba, the Embassy presented the exhibition "Photos from Cuba" by Dr. Rosen Kolarov. The event took place at the National Library of Cuba with the support of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba for Europe, Anayansi Rodriguez, employees of the "Europe and Canada" Directorate at the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ambassadors of the seventeen EU Member States with embassies in Havana, representatives of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment, Ministry of Culture, Institute for Friendship between Peoples, the chairman of the friendship group with Bulgaria in the National Assembly of People's Power, athletes from the Cuban national wrestling team, the chairman of the Cuban Academy of Sciences, Cubans who have graduated from higher education in Bulgaria, the Bulgarian community and other eternal friends of our country.
In his speech, Ambassador Todor Kanchevski highlighted the bilateral relations, built in a spirit of sympathy, friendship and striving for fruitful, mutually beneficial cooperation in a number of areas. Expressed hope that the shared desire for further development of relations between our two countries will be reflected not only in the cultural and educational exchange that has intensified in recent years, but also in the trade and economic sphere, in which there is significant potential. Pointed out that Bulgaria can be a valuable partner of Cuba in the process of reforms and economic modernization.
The exhibition is the shared vision of Dr. Rosen Kolarov, “a Bulgarian friend of Cuba,” who first visited the island as a tourist in 2017, when he took the photos shown. It contains portraits and everyday moments from Cuba, with the author’s view directed at the Cuban people.
In 2021, Dr. Rosen Kolarov published the book "Photos from Cuba", which includes color and black-and-white photographs showing the warmth and beauty of the country. The book, part of which are the photos included in the exhibition, will be presented to the Cuban public in 2026 within the framework of the International Book Fair in Havana.
