12 March 2024 News

On March 4, 2024, Bulgaria's Liberation from the Ottoman Empire was celebrated in the ceremonial hall of the National Polytechnic University of Armenia. More than 200 representatives from the government, the academic leadership of the university, diplomats accredited in Armenia, civil servants, politicians, public figures, the Bulgarian community and the media were present to express their honor and respect to the Bulgarian people on the occasion of the holiday. In his speech, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Republic of Armenia, Kalin Anastasov, noted that on March 3, 146 years ago, with the signing of the San Stefano Peace Treaty, Bulgaria rose again and the dream of our revivalists began to come true, that all Bulgarians would live in a free and independent country. Ambassador Anastasov emphasized that the established Third Bulgarian State during these years has experienced both glorious moments and national tragedies, but despite this, the Bulgarian people have not forgotten the most important thing -their freedom and independence.
In his speech, Ambassador Anastasov noted that Bulgaria firmly continues its development as a European country, sharing healthy values and sustainable democracy as the basis of peace and development. Bulgaria is a reliable and predictable partner within the EU, NATO and on the international stage, and the country's current ambitions are to join the Eurozone and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Ambassador Anastasov emphasized that Bulgaria is making systematic efforts to establish itself as a regional innovation leader, as well as that our country is upgrading its strategic partnerships not only with traditional but also with new partners in order to respond to global challenges. A priority in Bulgaria's policy is the aspiration to establish the country as a factor of security and stability in South-Eastern Europe, as well as the deepening of relations with neighboring countries. He delivered a message to the diplomatic corps about the need to invest time and resources in education, science and young people, which is the most sustainable investment in a free and independent Armenia. He shared with the guests the pleasure and privilege of serving as the Bulgarian ambassador in fraternal Armenia, noting the centuries-old cultural and historical connection between our peoples. He emphasized that for the last more than 30 years, Bulgaria and Armenia have not only been actively building up their good friendly relations, but also confidently share their civilizational choice - the democratic path of development.

Congratulation was given by the present Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Paruyr Hovhannisyan and Deputy Rector of the National Polytechnic University of Armenia Sarkis Asatryants.

The guests present received a traditional Bulgarian martenitsa and a souvenir with the perfume essence of a Bulgarian rose.

At a separate stand, advertising materials provided by the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Bulgaria were presented.

With a festive program, the ensemble of students from school No. 131 "Peyo Yavorov" in Yerevan participated in the event, who performed Bulgarian national songs and dances.

The talented Armenian singers and good friends of Bulgaria, Michael Ulikhanyan and Hasmik Harutyunyan, took care of the mood of the guests at the celebration.
