Bulgaria joined Denmark and 54 other countries in a stakeout at the United Nations marking five years since the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.
This grim anniversary is an opportunity to once again draw attention to the ongoing humanitarian and human rights crisis in the country, particularly the grave situation facing Afghan women and girls.
Human rights, including the rights of women and girls, continue to be severely restricted. This includes their access to education, fundamental freedoms and equal participation in public life.
We all remain committed to promoting and protecting human rights, including the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan. International efforts to build a peaceful, stable and inclusive future for the people of Afghanistan must continue.
