Ambassador Gergana Karadjova hosts the exhibition "Bulgaria from a Bird's Eye View"

18 May 2026 News

Ambassador Gergana Karadjova hosted the exhibition “Bulgaria from a Bird’s Eye View”, celebration dedicated to two of Bulgaria’s most significant national holidays – the Day of Bravery and the Bulgarian Armed Forces, celebrated on 6 May, and 24 May – the Day of Saints Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture and of Slavonic Script. The event took place at the Permanent Mission of Bulgaria to the United Nations and was attended by ambassadors of UN Member States, representatives of the UN Secretariat, and representatives of the host country.

“These holidays embody the strength of the Bulgarian spirit, our historical memory and cultural identity. They remind us of the importance of knowledge, spirituality, courage, and responsibility toward the legacy we leave to future generations,” Ambassador Karadjova said at the opening of the exhibition.

Ambassador Karadjova emphasized that the Bulgarian Armed Forces are a symbol of honour, duty and professionalism, with deep-rooted traditions in safeguarding the country’s independence and security. “Today, Bulgaria continues to be a reliable and predictable partner within NATO and the European Union, contributing to peace, stability and international cooperation,” the Permanent Representative of Bulgaria stated.

“24 May is one of the brightest and most unifying Bulgarian holidays – a day on which we honour the work of Saints Cyril and Methodius and Bulgaria’s contribution to European and world culture. The Cyrillic script, created and developed in Bulgaria, is today an official alphabet in more than ten countries and a symbol of spirituality, education and cultural connection among nations,” Ambassador Karadjova further noted.

The exhibition presents Bulgaria in an inspiring and extraordinary way through the lens of the talented photographer Alexander Ivanov. Over the course of 17 years and more than 500 flight hours, he has captured the magic of the four seasons, the majesty of the Rila and Pirin mountains, the beauty of the Black Sea coast and the Rose Valley, as well as iconic historical and cultural landmarks such as Perperikon, the Belogradchik Rocks and Tsarevets Fortress.

“In a world marked by challenges and divisions, culture and art continue to serve as a universal language of understanding, dialogue and mutual respect. This is precisely why such events are of particular importance – they build bridges between nations and remind us of the power of cultural diplomacy,” Ambassador Gergana Karadjova also stated.

The Permanent Mission of Bulgaria to the United Nations in New York extends its heartfelt gratitude to all more than 100 guests who shared this special evening with us and became part of an unforgettable journey ‘from a bird’s eye view’ over Bulgaria.
