Ambassador Gergana Karadjova held a meeting with Sivanka Dhanapala, Director of the New York Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The meeting took place at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Bulgaria in New York.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the ongoing activities of UNHCR in addressing the growing challenges related to forced displacement worldwide, as well as the preparations for the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees.
Bulgaria reaffirmed its consistent support for international efforts aimed at the protection of refugees and the preservation of the global framework for their protection. UNHCR expressed high appreciation for the excellent cooperation with Bulgaria, as well as gratitude for the country’s support to Ukrainian refugees and displaced persons.
