22 April 2026 NewsDuring the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, under the agenda item “Use of the veto”, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Bulgaria to the United Nations, Ambassador Gergana Karadjova, expressed regret over the use of the veto in the Security Council and underlined the importance of the Veto Initiative as a key tool for transparency and accountability.
Bulgaria expressed solidarity with the Gulf countries, condemned attacks against civilian infrastructure and shipping, and stressed the importance of maritime security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Bulgaria called for de-escalation, respect for international law, and strengthened diplomatic efforts to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East.
