Ambassador Karadjova reaffirmed Bulgaria’s strong support for the Committee’s impartial, neutral and independent mandate to protect the life and dignity of victims of armed conflict and to promote universal humanitarian principles.
Expressing deep concern over the shockingly insufficient compliance with international humanitarian law, Bulgaria nevertheless welcomed the fact that the global consensus underpinning the Geneva Conventions continues to hold.
Bulgaria actively supports international initiatives such as the ICRC Global Initiative on International Humanitarian Law and the New Declaration for the Protection of Humanitarian Personnel, and has fully integrated IHL into its national legislation, as confirmed by the joint review conducted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bulgarian Red Cross.
