On March 1, 2025, the traditional ceremony of raising the Bulgarian flag took place at Bowling Green, the oldest public park in New York, near the iconic Wall Street Charging Bull statue. The event gathered numerous Bulgarians and friends of Bulgaria to celebrate the occasion.
For the third consecutive year, New York City Mayor Eric Adams honored the event with his presence. He extended his congratulations to the Bulgarian community and, alongside Consul General Angel Angelov and Bulgaria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Lachezara Stoeva, hoisted the Bulgarian tricolor. The national anthems of Bulgaria and the United States were performed live by artist Gina Di Donato.
Consul General Angel Angelov, Ambassador Lachezara Stoeva, Metropolitan Joseph of the Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Diocese of the USA, Canada, and Australia, and Ed Mermelstein, Commissioner for International Affairs at New York City Hall, also addressed the guests. The ceremony was hosted by Ibrahim Kurtulus, Vice President of the Bowling Green Association.
The celebration featured performances by students from Bulgarian schools and cultural centers in New York, including the Gergana Bulgarian Children's Choir, Hristo Botev School, Roden Krai School in New Jersey, and the Little Bulgarian Voices School in Rhode Island. Traditional Bulgarian dance groups "Bosilek" and "Algara" also contributed to the festive atmosphere.
