On December 3, 2019, the Consul General in New York Angel Angelov participated as a special guest in the celebration of "Hanukkah", organized by the American Jewish Committee in the USA (AJC) and held at the Consulate General of Poland in New York.
The holiday is one of the important events in the public life of the Jewish community and marks the beginning of the new year. During the celebration the traditional Jewish menorah is lit.
The solemn celebration was attended by the President of the AJC for New York, Robert Skolnik, Acting Regional Director Brandon Pinsker, board members of the organization from New York, the consuls general, representatives of the Jewish community in the city (including the AJC Bulgaria Outreach Group) and the NY State Legislature.
The invitation to the Consul General of Bulgaria to participate in the ceremony can be considered a recognition of Bulgaria's commitment to issues important to American Jewish organizations, such as the fight against anti-Semitism, as well as the excellent cooperation of its diplomatic missions in the United States with these organizations.
