Participation of the Consul General in New York in the celebration of the anniversary of Kristallnacht at Park East Synagogue in Manhattan

The Consul General of Bulgaria in New York Angel Angelov took part in a ceremony at the Park East Synagogue, dedicated to the anniversary of Kristallnacht, an anti-Jewish pogrom in Germany and Austria on the night of November 9-10, 1938.
The event was hosted by Rabbi Arthur Schneier, one of New York's most respected Jewish clergymen, who was living in Vienna at the time of these tragic events. A special guest was the Austrian Consul General, who made a speech in which she noted that Austria takes responsibility for what was done on its territory.
At the lunch that followed, Rabbi Schneier welcomed the several consuls general he had invited. Introducing the Bulgarian representative, he emphasized that during the Second World War, Bulgaria saved its Jews.
In his brief remarks, the Bulgarian diplomat thanked for the invitation and for Rabbi Schneier's acknowledgement of the heroic rescue of the Bulgarian Jews. Angel Angelov emphasized that it is not enough just to remember what happened during the Holocaust, but also to take measures to prevent such a tragedy from happening again. In this regard, he shared about the National plan to combat anti-Semitism adopted by Bulgaria in 2023, prescribing coordinated actions in several domains.
