On 19 December 2024, an official signing ceremony of a bilateral donor agreement between the Republic of Bulgaria and the World Health Organization took place in the WHO premises in Geneva. The agreement was agreed upon earlier in the week.
Bulgaria will financially support the WHO humanitarian mission to Gaza, which is aimed at addressing the most urgent health needs and supporting the functioning of the health system in the enclave. WHO supplies life-saving materials, organises external medical assistance and monitors and responds to outbreaks of diseases.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the two countries by Ambassador Yuri Sterk and WHO Deputy Director-General, Dr. Mike Ryan, respectively. Following the signing ceremony, the interlocutors discussed the current global humanitarian situation and related health emergencies in different parts of the world. Bulgaria's contribution to the WHO mission in Gaza was highly appreciated as a gesture of solidarity with the humane work of the Organization in providing emergency medical care and decent healthcare to the persons in need around the world.
