The 112th session of the International Labour Conference ended successfully

The 112th session of the International Labour Conference /ILC/ was held from 3 to 14 June 2024 in Geneva. Over 4,900 delegates from governments, workers' and employers' organisations took part in the 112th session of the ILC. This year, the large-scale international event was held under the call for a renewed social contract.

On June 3, 2024, an official meeting was held between Mr. Ivaylo Ivanov, Minister of Labour and Social Policy of the Republic of Bulgaria, and Mr. Gilbert Houngbo, Director General of the International Labour Organisation /ILO/. The meeting took place at the Palace of Nations in Geneva within the framework of the 112th session of the International Labour Conference /ILC/, which was held in the period 3-14 June 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland.

Ambassador Yuri Sterk signed the Final Act of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Diplomatic Conference

On May 24, 2024, on behalf of the Republic of Bulgaria Ambassador Yuri Sterk, Permanent Representative of Bulgaria to UN-Geneva, signed the Final Act of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Diplomatic Conference to Conclude an International Legal Instrument Relating to Intellectual Property, Genetic Resources and Traditional Knowledge Associated with Genetic Resources. The Conference took place on May 13-24, 2024 in Geneva and ended with the signing of the Final Act – a legally non-binding political document, which marked the successful end of the negotiating process and the consensual adoption of the text of WIPO Treaty on Intellectual Property, Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge. The Treaty will remain open for signature for 1 year, starting from May 24, 2024. It is the first adopted WIPO universal international law treaty in more than a decade and the first in recent years worldwide.

Bulgaria deposits the instruments of ratification of Conventions No. 155 and No. 187 of the International Labour Organisation on occupational safety and health

On 2 April 2024, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Bulgraia to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Yuri Sterk, deposited with the Director General of the International Labour Organization /ILO/, Gilbert Houngbo, the instruments of ratification by the Republic of Bulgaria of the Occupational Safety and Health Convention No 155 of the ILO, adopted at the 67th session of the International Labour Conference /ILC/ on 22 June 1981 in Geneva, Switzerland, and of the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention No 187 of the ILO, adopted at the 95th session of the ILC on 15 June 2006 in Geneva, Switzerland.

The fifty-fifth regular session of the UN Human Rights Council opened on 26 February in Geneva with a High-Level Segment with the participation of UN General Assembly President Dennis Francis, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk, as well as more than 120 high-level representatives of UN Member States, including Heads of State, Heads and Deputy Heads of Government and Ministers of Foreign Affairs. At the opening of the session, Bulgaria was represented by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Bulgaria to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Yuri Sterk.
