The Нead of the national tripartite delegation addressed the 110th session of the International Labour Conference

On 7 June 2022 the Head of the national tripartite delegation to the 110-th session of the International Labour Conference /ILC/, Ms. Zhulieta Varlyakova, Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Policy of the Republic of Bulgaria, delivered a national statement on the report of the Director General of the International Labour Organisation /ILO/ Guy Ryder, entitled „The Least Developed Countries: Crisis, structural transformation and the future of work”.

Deputy Minister Varlyakova explained that in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development it is necessary to pay special attention to the problems the least developed countries are facing. She noted that throughout the years the ILO has proven its important role in supporting countries in crisis situations and stressed that international labour standards and tripartism are key to ensuring decent work. She pointed out that the war in Ukraine poses serious risks not only to the world of labour, but creates risks of a food, financial and energy crisis on a global scale. She pointed out that raising the skills of the workforce in accordance with the needs of the economy is among the main national priorities. On behalf of Bulgaria, Deputy Minister Varlyakova thanked Guy Ryder, whose term as ILO Director General ends in October 2022, for his great contribution to the work of the ILO and for his efforts to strengthen social dialogue. She wished success to the Director General-elect, Gilbert Houngbo.

Key discussions for the world of work, including the inclusion of safe and healthy working environment in the basic principles and rights at work, the creation new international labour standards for apprenticeships and a discussion on decent work and the social and solidarity economy, take place during the 110th session of the ILC.

This year's conference is the first in the history of the organisation to be held in a hybrid format. Bulgaria participates in the Conference with a 21-member tripartite national delegation and Bulgarian representatives take an active part in all committees. The delegate of the Bulgarian employers is Mrs. Maria Mincheva, Deputy Chairman of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce /BIA/, and the Deputy Delegate is Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov, Chairman of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry /BCCI/. The delegate of the Bulgarian workers is Mr. Dimitar Manolov, Chairman of the “Podkrepa” Labour Confederation, and the Deputy Delegate is Mr. Plamen Dimitrov, Chairman of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bulgaria /CITUB/.
