The new Bulgarian Sunday school "Ivan Vazov" opened in Riga, Latvia

On September 21, 2019, in a solemn setting in the Latvian capital, the school year was opened at the newly opened Bulgarian Sunday School "Ivan Vazov".

Ms. Turkian Akif, Consul at the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Warsaw, accredited to Latvia, wished good luck to the new school and read a congratulatory address from the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr. Rumen Radev. On behalf of the Bulgarian Embassy and the Bulgarian Ambassador, the school principals, parents and children were most heartily wished for health and success in learning the native language and safeguarding the Bulgarian identity.
 
An exciting event for the students and their parents was marked by a rich cultural program including poems and songs, a theater production adapted and presented by local enthusiasts, tasting of traditional Bulgarian dishes and more. The Children were distributed their new books presented by the Embassy in Warsaw with Bulgarian folk tales.

The Honorary Consul of Bulgaria to Latvia Mrs. Myrita Solima and other official guests also welcomed.

The new school, supported by the Ministry of Education and Science under the program "Native Language and Culture Abroad" will train 13 children from mixed families in the new school year. Its creation is successful with the efforts of the local Bulgarian community, supported by the Embassy in Warsaw and the Ministry of Education and Science, to create the first-ever center of native language and culture in Latvia.
