Third European Film Festival in Pakistan

21 May 2024 News

The Third European Film Festival (EUFF) in Pakistan commenced on 15 May 2024 at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) in Islamabad. The first screenings during the launch event included a video about the EU and its activities in Pakistan, followed by the Bulgarian short fiction film “Omelette” directed by Nadejda Koseva and written by Georgi Gospodinov.

Speaking at the official opening of the event, the Head of the EU Delegation in Pakistan Dr. Riina Kionka stated that the EU actively supports filmmaking not only as an art form but also as a means to bring people together to address important social, political and other topics. Good cinema contributes to a pluralistic society based on respect for others, equality and democratic decision-making.

This year’s festival will continue until the end of May 2024 and will travel also to Peshawar, Quetta and Gujrat. It showcases over 20 short and feature films from EU Member States. Additionally, the event features short films from Pakistan.

The Bulgarian fiction/comedy “The Naked Truth about Zhiguli Band”, directed by Victor Bojinov, will also be screened during the festival on 23 May 2024 in Quetta.

The Third European Film Festival in Pakistan is expected to attract a big number of visitors who will have the opportunity to enjoy a cinematic journey across Europe, as well as to attend master classes and panel discussions on the art of filmmaking and the role of cinema in society.
