According to the Embassy of Bulgaria in Berlin, the difficult weather conditions in the Federal Republic of Germany in the past few days are cause for concern. The levels of the rivers Danube, Elbe, Inn, Neckar, Weisser Elster, Mulde and Lake Chiemsee in the federal states of Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia have risen to the extent that a state of emergencyhas been declared. Parts of the old towns in the cities of Regensburg, Passau, Grim and Pirna, and other smaller settlements in the valleys of these rivershave been inundated. The Munich-Rosenheim-Salzburg highway has been closed because of flooding from Lake Chiemsee. There is a risk of overflow of the River Elbe as a result of the increased flow from tributaries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises Bulgarian citizens who are planning to travel to those parts of Germany to consider postponing their trips until the situation has normalised. It is recommended that Bulgarian citizens who nevertheless travel to flood-hit German states to monitor weather conditions carefully and to obey all local authorities.
