At the invitation of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and with the support of the Consulate General of Bulgaria in the megalopolis, on 15 September 2024 the Folklore Dance Ensemble “Balkan” presented Bulgarian folklore dancing in Shanghai.

The performance took place at the heart of the Chinese financial capital – the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and included Erkechki dances, Northern dances, songs and dances from Ograzhden, and “Youth” - a dance from Shopluka, the region surrounding Sofia.

The enthusiasts of the Folklore Dance Ensemble “Balkan” are a modern embodiment of the spirit of Bulgarian enlighteners. Their performance moved the audience and was a hearty Bulgarian gift for the Mid-Autumn Festival in China.

Efficient cooperation between Bulgarian and Chinese official, nongovernmental and private entities made this initiative possible.
