Organisation of a gala concert to mark Independence Day and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Sofia Opera and Ballet and the Armenian National Opera and Ballet Theatre

On 22 September 2026, the Sofia Opera and Ballet signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Armenian National Opera and Ballet Theatre for the first time.
At a meeting held at the Armenian National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Yerevan, the directors of the two institutions, Plamen Kartaloff and Karen Durgaryan, signed this historic document, relating to joint cooperation regarding the exchange of artists and creative staff for events to be organized during the new artistic season from October 2026 to September 2027.
From 7.00 pm local time, on the stage of the Armenian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, before a full house, soloists from the two national opera theatres performed a joint concert, which marked the Independence Day of the Republic of Bulgaria in a festive manner. The event was attended by Bulgaria’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, Prof. Mariela Modeva, representatives of Armenian state institutions, ambassadors and diplomats, Bulgarians and many friends of Bulgaria, including a number of well-known Armenian sportspeople, cultural figures and business representatives.
The initiative was organised by H.E. Nikola Nikolov, Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Armenia, and paves the way for a new tradition and new horizons of cooperation between the Sofia National Opera and Ballet and the Armenian National Opera and Ballet Theatre.
