“Bound by history, united by friendship” – Nikola Nikolov
17 July 2026 News
In an exclusive interview with Agos, Nikola Nikolov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Republic of Armenia, discusses the current state of Armenian-Bulgarian relations.
The main points highlighted in Ambassador Nikolov's interview are:
- Тo elevate the political and economic dialogue to a qualitatively new, strategic level by revitalizing bilateral trade and economic relations, promoting investment, cultural and tourism exchanges, organizing various events of mutual interest, and supporting Armenia’s efforts to deepen its dialogue with the EU. Another important focus will be strengthening dialogue in the fields of high technology, education, and a number of other areas of mutual interest;
- However, the strongest ties remain those between the academic communities and schools. As an example, I can mention the 131st “Peyo Yavorov” Primary School in Yerevan, which has an active partnership with the Bulgarian “Peyo Yavorov” School in Chirpan and the “Peyo Yavorov” School in Burgas. Culture has always served as a unique bridge connecting people and enabling the further development of political ties;
- Historically, we have never had any opportunistic or geopolitical interests that have divided us. We have always maintained a purely human and civilizational understanding that has stood the test of time. Our relations are not affected by the frequent political and geopolitical changes on a global scale;
- In Bulgaria and the Bulgarian people, Armenia will always find a sincere friend, a reliable partner, and a strong supporter on its path toward peace, prosperity, and European development. Let us preserve our freedom-loving spirit and our cultural and historical heritage, looking toward tomorrow, and above all, let us not forget that we are human beings and must help one another in difficult times.
