On 07.09.2021 a meeting was held between the Amb. of the Republic of Bulgaria Kalin Anastasov and the Director of the National Academy of Sciences Ashot Saghyan.

At the beginning of the conversation, Amb. Anastasov expressed his satisfaction with the opportunity to hold a meeting with Mr. Saghyan and congratulated him on his appointment as Director General of the National Academy of Sciences. The greeting was followed by congratulations from Mr. Saghyan to the Ambassador for his appointment in Armenia. Mr. Saghyan briefly presented his professional experience, informing that he specialized in biotechnology and bio-organic chemistry. The director of the academy also briefly presented the structure of the institution. Mr. Saghyan mentioned that the Academy was established during a difficult and complex period, in 1943, during the war under the leadership of the first President of the Academy, the legendary scientist - Joseph Orbeli. The Academy currently has approximately 4,000 research associates; 54 academics; 58 corresponding members, 330 doctors of science and 1105 candidates of science.

From his side, Mr. Anastasov, thanked for the provided detailed information  and noted that Bulgaria will continue to support Armenia in future as well and not only financially, through its Official development aid program, but also through exchange of experience and expertise, socially and politically. The spheres of science, culture and education, were highlighted to be especially important, as the impulse for activating cooperation. Amb. Anastasov emphasized that in 2022 it will be the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Armenia and expressed his desire to continue developing and deepening the already existing excellent relations between two countries and nations.
