Dear friends of Bulgaria!

Allow me to warmly welcome you to the official page of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in the Republic of South Africa. The Bulgarian representation in Pretoria is responsible also for the cooperation of Bulgaria with Angola, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Namibia. Our Consular region covers Eswatini, the Comoros Islands, Mauritius, Madagascar, Malawi and Mozambique, as well.

Ladies and Gentleman,

This page is intended to acquaint you with the updated and relevant  information about Bulgaria, its history, culture, institutions, economics and investments, opportunities for education and travel as well as on consular issues. In the recent past Bulgaria has built traditionally friendly relations with the African countries, which it assisted and supported consistently.

Our country has always supported the struggle of the South African people against the apartheid, for democracy, equal rights and opportunities for each and every South African citizen.

Leaning on our long-standing partnership, we shall continue to work for deepening the friendship and trust between Bulgaria and South Africa, for enhancement of the political dialogue, for development of the economic cooperation and relations in the fields of culture, education and sport.

The diplomatic relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of South Africa were established in November 1990 by signing an agreement for opening representation bureaus. Relations at the level of Ambassadors were established during the month of February 1992.

One of the major objectives of the Bulgarian Mission is to ensure adequate and competent consular services and protection of the rights and interests of the Bulgarian citizens. Our constant endeavor will be to support the Bulgarian community in South Africa, to assist for the preservation of the Bulgarian language, traditions and culture, to facilitate the contacts of our compatriots with their motherland, to encourage learning and knowledge of the Bulgarian language. For us, the Bulgarian Community is the natural bridge, the channel for the development and expansion of contacts between Bulgaria and South Africa. The great number of African citizens, who have graduated from Bulgarian universities, have preserved their attachment and warm feelings towards Bulgaria and the Bulgarian people. Those people represent ”the warm connection” for maintaining and  deepening the relations with the countries from the region.

Dear Compatriots,

I would like to assure you that the doors of the Bulgarian Embassy are always open for you. We shall be glad if you get involved in our initiatives and projects devoted to important Bulgarian holidays and traditions. We will highly appreciate if you invite us to celebrate together our much cherished holidays!

We will count on your suggestions for cultural events, which could lead to greater visibility of the Bulgarian culture and enrichment of the positive image of Bulgaria in South Africa.
