On the 27th and 28th July 2016 the Second International Festival of Orthodox choral music "Illuminator" was held the territory of the Valaam monastery.

The Valaam Festival was held with the blessing of His Holiness the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill patriarch.

It serves the preservation of cultural heritage and revived the traditions of Orthodox chant. Amongst the participants, there were representative of monastic brotherhoods, Orthodox choirs and groups from Bulgaria, Armenia, Greece, Georgia, Lebanon, Romania and Russia.
