According to the Embassy of Bulgaria in Athens, two major unions of Greece – the private sector General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) and the public sector Civil Servants' Confederation (ADEDY), as well as the Greek Communist Partry union All-Workers Militant Front(PAME), have announced a 24-hour strike throughout Greece on June 13 2013 .

The strike is in solidarity with employees of the Greek public radio broadcaster ERT, which was closed on June 11 2013 and is projected to be establishedagain in September, but with a changed concept and structure and with many fewer staff. Apart fromthe suspension of work,strikes in the country are customarily accompanied by rallies, mostly in the centreof Athens, which makesmovement and the carrying out of the normal activities of the population difficult.

A 24-hour strike also has been called by doctors underthe authority of the National Health Service. From 3pm to 5pm, airtraffic control employees also will be on strike. A number of other trade unions have also expressed their intention to strike, including artists, public transport, tourist buses and more. University exams have been cancelled.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises Bulgarian citizens planning to travel to Greece or residing temporarily or permanently in the country at the time of the announced strike action, to avoid where possible the central parts of the Greek capital and other areas with a higher concentration of protesting citizens.
