Visit of the Bulgarian Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov to Athens
09 January 2024 NewsBulgarian Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov visited Athens on January 4, 2024 and met with his Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The meeting was followed by a working lunch attended by the delegations of both countries.
During the talks, the two Prime Ministers made a comprehensive review of the state of bilateral relations and the progress of cooperation in a number of areas of joint interest, with a focus on infrastructure, transport and energy connectivity.
The Bulgarian Prime Minister emphasised the excellent strategic relations between Bulgaria and Greece, focusing on projects of common interest for both countries, including in the context of the development of vertical transport and energy connectivity along the North-South axis.
Greek Prime Minister K. Mitsotakis pointed out that the visit of Acad. Denkov is the first official visit to Greece in 2024 and this speaks for the quality of bilateral relations. He congratulated Bulgaria on its accession to the Schengen Agreement and underlined that he looks forward to its full application, including the land borders between Bulgaria and Greece.
The Bulgarian delegation included Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Gabriel, Minister of Finance Assen Vassilev, Minister of Environment and Water Julian Popov and Minister of Energy Rumen Radev.
