On October 1, 2023 - the International Day of Music, Theodosii Spassov Folk Quintet performed a spectacular concert in Ottawa, which kicked off the Bulgarian Cultural Days in the Canadian capital. The organizers of the event - the National Capital Region Bulgarian Community, the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Ottawa and Senator Yonah Martin, Co-chair of the Canada-Bulgaria Parliamentary Friendship Group addressed the audience with opening remarks. The event was held in the remarkable hall of the Canadian Parliament - in the "Sir John A. MacDonald" building in the center of the city and was honored by representatives of the local dipl. corps, Canadian and Bulgarian citizens.

At the opening of the event, Ambassador Plamen Georgiev briefly presented the music of Theodosii Spasov Folk Quintet, which combines traditional Bulgarian rhythms with modern elements and ethno jazz. Mr. Georgiev emphasized the importance of Bulgarian music as a universal means of broadcasting cultural messages, and that the Bulgarian community in Canada, with its cultural charge, has significantly enriched the diversity of Canadian society.

Ambassador Georgiev recalled the history of the Bulgarian community in Canada dating back to the end of the 19th century and stated that our compatriots in this country are successful artists, scientists, entrepreneurs and administrators who help shape Canada as we know it today.

In their speeches, Ambassador Georgiev and Senator Martin, Co-chair of the Canada-Bulgaria Parliamentary Friendship Group, emphasized the importance of people-to-people ties for the development of the relations between Bulgaria and Canada, and the Canadian senator highlighted the cooperation between the two countries in the field of security.

The guests of the show highly appreciated the opportunity to try Bulgarian wines and the traditional Bulgarian meals specially prepared by the organizers.

On the next day after its successful concert in downtown Ottawa, on October 2, 2023 Teodosii Spasov Folk Quintet visited the Bulgarian Embassy of Bulgaria in Ottawa, where the artists and the Ambassador Georgiev discussed ways of cooperation to further promote the Bulgarian culture in Canada. The musicians shared that the Ottawa concert was part of a larger North American tour that began in Chicago, Detroit, New York, Pittsburgh and Toronto, with upcoming concerts in Washington D.C. and Boston.

The next events of the Days of Bulgarian Culture in Ottawa will be a dancing event "Horoteka" on 14 October and a free screening of the film "Yatagan" on 19 October 2023.

The Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Ottawa expresses its special thanks to the National Capital Region Bulgarian Community and to Senator Yonah Martin, Co-chair of the Canada-Bulgaria Parliamentary Friendship Group, for the excellent organization of the event.
