The Consul General Angel Angelov was elected member of the Executive Committee of the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York (SOFCNY) and vice president for Europe I regional group.

The Society was founded in 1925 and includes diplomats from the largest consular corps in the world. Its mission is to protect the interests and rights of the members of the diplomatic corps of the consulates general based in New York and to promote cultural and economic relations between the represented countries and the United States. SOFCNY works together with the US State Department Office of Foreign Missions and the Office of the Mayor of New York City.

In the past year the activity of SOFCNY has been significantly enhanced. A visit of the consuls general to the capital of the state of New York, Albany, was organized and meetings with political leaders, incl. the governor of the state, were held, as well as scientific laboratories and key infrastructure were visited. A number of meetings with the leadership of the city of New York, incl. with the mayor of NYC were held, as well as various cultural events such as presenting national cuisines, nominating women for their contribution to their immigrant communities, etc. were organized.

The Consulate General of Bulgaria takes an active part in many of the events organized by SOFCNY.
