Advisory regarding travel to Syria
02 August 2011 News
Given the continuing unrest in Syria and the Syrian military operations in Hama and other cities in recent days, the Foreign Ministry reiterates its warning to Bulgarian citizens not to travel to Syria. Citizens who do make the trip, however, should avoid visiting public places, should not become involved in protests, should obey the instructions of local authorities and, if necessary, should contact the Bulgarian Embassy.
Given the rapidly deteriorating situation in various regions of Syria, the Bulgaria Embassy in Damascus has limited capacity to assist and to render consular protection to Bulgarian citizens who get into difficulties.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates its urgent appeal to Bulgarian citizens residing temporarily or permanently in Syria to consider leaving the country as soon as possible. They should, before departure, check if they have valid exit visa and identity documents.
