27 May 2024 News

On 25 May 2024, in the historic part of Old Havana, between the building symbol of EU-Cuba cooperation, Palacio del Segundo Cabo and Palacio de Capitanes, held an outdoor concert of the New York-based Bulgarian dance ensemble Gorana Dance and Choir "Yasna Voices" and the Cuban National School of Art (ENA).

The event was held with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture of Cuba, the Old Havana Historians Office and the Cuban National School of Art.

Performers from Bulgaria and the United States presented Bulgarian folk dances and songs on the occasion of the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, Bulgarian education and culture and Slavic literacy.

Ambassador Todor Kanchevski pointed out that 24 May is a date of great importance for Bulgaria, Europe and the whole world. Date on which we mark the creation of the Cyrillic alphabet by the brothers Cyril and Methodius. He noted that a stone, part of the ancient town of Preslav, where Cyrillic was first used, was gifted to Havana in 1981., in honor of the 1300th anniversary of the founding of Bulgaria and today it is located just 20 meters from the place where the concert is held - on the wall of the Captains' Palace.

He also noted that the event is a testimony to the deep cultural connection and friendship that connects Bulgaria and Cuba. It shows the level of trust achieved between the two countries, given the fact that for the first time Bulgarians, US Americans and Cubans are performing an outdoor concert together in Cuba, i.e. Europe, Cuba and the United States together.

More than 300 people were present - officials of the Cuban state administration, diplomats from European embassies and the United States, representatives of the Bulgarian community and the group of Cubans graduated from Bulgarian universities, casually passing through the Square Tourists and Friends of Bulgaria.
