26 May 2023 News

The day of the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture was celebrated at the Consulate General with an ethnographic exhibition. The exhibits are part of the rich personal ethnographic collection of the choreographer Elissaveta Iordanova, founder of the folklore ensemble Gorana Dance.

The Consul General Mr. Angel Angelov greeted the guests on the occasion of May 24 and pointed out that just a few hours earlier the Bulgarians had received a wonderful gift on this special day - the prestigious international Booker Prize for literature was awarded to Georgi Gospodinov (author) and Angela Rodel ( translator) for the book "Time Shelter". This is the first book written in Bulgarian that was ever included in the selection of 12 books for the international Booker Prize.

At the opening of the exhibition, Ms. Iordanova presented the exhibits, some of which were made by her grandmother, and others were collected during her travels around different parts of Bulgaria, and talked about Bulgarian cultural traditions. The guests also tasted traditional Bulgarian pita and banitsa. Bulgarian folklore dances were performed by members of Gorana Dance.
