On occasion of Europe Day, the Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Valencia presented the exhibition "Bulgaria from a Bird's Eye View"
On occasion of Europe Day, on 4th May the Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Valencia organised the international conference “The European Union Today and Tomorrow”. The event was co-organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Romania and the Consulate of the Republic of Lithuania in Valencia, in partnership with the University of Valencia, and was accompanied by the exhibition “Bulgaria from a Bird’s Eye View” provided by the State Institute for Culture to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Held in the historic “La Nau” building, the cultural center of the University of Valencia, the conference brought together diplomats, representatives of the academic community, experts in international relations, and a large international audience. For the first time in Valencia, the three career consulates of EU member states jointly organized an event of this scale – an example of successful cultural and public diplomacy that shines a light on Bulgaria’s international presence.
Representing Bulgaria was Ms. Biserka Benisheva – a diplomat with an exceptional contribution to Bulgaria’s European integration, core member of the negotiating team for the country’s accession to the EU. In her lecture titled “The European Union in 2026 – In Search of the Path to the Future”, Ms. Benisheva emphasized strategic autonomy, institutional resilience, and the future of the European project in the context of a changing international environment.
Following the conference, guests viewed a photography exhibition showcasing the cultural and natural heritage of Bulgaria, Romania, and Lithuania, among them the exhibition “Bulgaria from a Bird’s Eye View,” which has been provided in cooperation with the State Institute for Culture to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The exhibition “Bulgaria from a Bird’s Eye View” is a curated selection of 25 large-format photographs by Alexander Ivanov and presents some of Bulgaria’s most recognisable and beautiful natural and historical landmarks. The photographs take viewers on a journey through picturesque and awe-inspiring aerial shots the photographer captured over hundreds of kilometers of flying a motorized hang glider over the country. With more than 500 flight hours over the span of 17 years, Alexander Ivanov has managed to capture the beauty of Bulgaria from the air – the myriad hues of the four seasons spanning the Black Sea, the Valley of Roses, the Rila and Pirin mountain ranges and iconic sites such as Perperikon, the Belogradchik Rocks, Tsarevets, the ancient Thracian sanctuaries, and more.
The exhibition is part of the State Cultural Institute’s “Traveling Exhibitions” program and has garnered widespread interest among Bulgarian diplomatic missions worldwide, with visits to Chile, Italy, Tunisia, Denmark, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, the UAE, Spain, Canada, Romania, Indonesia, Norway, Germany, Egypt, and others.
