Annual "Bulgarian Cultural Ambassadors 2025" Awards, an Initiative by the Bulgarian National Radio

On 17 June, the Bulgarian National Radio presented the annual “Bulgarian Cultural Ambassadors 2025” awards. The State Institute for Culture to the Minister of Foreign Affairs is an institutional partner of the initiative, which annually honors distinguished individuals, artists and professionals alike from various fields of culture for outstanding contribution to Bulgarian culture.

This year’s honorees is singer DARA, who won the 70th anniversary edition of the world-renowned Eurovision Song Contest, marking Bulgaria's first ever win in the contest. Among the winners are also Dr. Nadezhda Dzhakova, art historian, director of the Museum for Contemporary Art in Sofia and commissionary of the Bulgarian pavillion at the 2024 Biennale di Venezia. Lt. Col. Radi Radev, chief conductor of the Guards Representative Brass Band, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mimoza Hasani, a lecturer at the University of Pristina, scholar and literary critic with a years-long investment into bringing Bulgaria and Kosovo closer together through education and culture. The award was also presented to sculptor Ivan Kanchev, who is among the most acclaimed and internationally recognized Bulgarian artists, recipient of over 50 national and international awards, as well as choreographer Prof. Anton Andonov, ballet master, choreographer and vice-rector of the “Prof. Asen Diamandiev” Academy of Music, Dance, and Fine Arts in Plovdiv. The Special Prize of the Bulgarian National Radio was awarded to Tzvetina Gramova, one of the most prominent preservers and promoters of Bulgarian folklore, having made a particularly significant contribution, at home and abroad, for the promotion of Bulgarian folk music and rhythms in Bulgaria and around the world.

The awards were presented at an official ceremony at the National Archaeological Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The award for Dr. Dzhakova was presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova-Chamova. The event is traditionally held under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Ms. Iliana Yotova. Also participating in the ceremony were the Children’s Radio Choir, led by chief conductor Maestra Venetia Karamanova, and chamber ensembles from the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra and Folk Music Orchestra.
