The exhibition "National Dress: a Source of Pride and Heritage" will be presented in Plovdiv. The opening will take place on 21st April at 6:00 PM in the Great Hall of the Plovdiv Regional Ethnographic Museum.

This is the fourth time the collection is being shown in Bulgaria. So far, the exhibition has visited Sofia, Burgas and Gabrovo. Its unveiling took place in May 2024 at the 9th GPDNet General Assembly in Doha, Qatar, in partnership with 17 Member States of the organization, including Bulgaria. As a member of the Global Public Diplomacy Network GPDNet and national representative of Bulgaria, the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs provided four artistic photographs to be included in the exhibition, depicting Bulgarian folk costumes. The costumes are reproductions by Mr. Svetoslav Petrov and have been photographed by Bulgarian photographer Ms. Petya Dobreva.

“National Clothing – A Source of Pride and Heritage” includes selected photographs that reveal the diversity of national costumes as carriers of history, identity and spirituality. The photographs showcase the cultural uniqueness and plurality of 17 countries, and capture the essence of traditional clothing as a key element of cultural heritage and world diversity. The exhibition aims to contribute to the preservation and popularisation of the centuries-old the heritage, traditions and culture of the participating countries. In a time of increasing global division, this collection encourages a better understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity, notably by emphasizing what is typical and unique for each nation.

Founded in 2014 in Seoul, South Korea, the Global Public Diplomacy Network (GPDNet) is a platform for cultural, academic and civic exchange. It brings together 29 Member States and seeks to promote international cooperation via cultural and public diplomacy as a means of exercising soft power worldwide. Since 2019, the Katara Public Diplomacy Center, located in Doha, has held the rotating presidency of the organization and is the leading force behind the platform’s continuing efforts to encourage intercultural dialogue. Bulgaria became a full member of GPDNet in 2021, with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Doha, and is represented by the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
