Exhibition “Border Situation: Drawing in Contemporary Art” in the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Prague

On 10 January 2011, an exhibition entitled “Border Situation: Drawing in Contemporary Art” opened in the Bulgarian Cultural Centre in Prague. The exhibition will be open to the public until 10 February 2011. The opening was attended by one of the authors and curator of the exhibition Lyuben Petrov, and Yovo Panchev, expert at the State Institute for Culture.

“Border Situation: Drawing in Contemporary Art” presents twenty contemporary Bulgarian authors with more than 50 drawings by which the young artists define the conceptual meaning of the drawing, one of the most traditional and authentic forms of art in general. The selection summarises the wide range of answers that authors give to the question, “Where do contemporary art and drawings meet?”

Some of the most interesting and active new-generation Bulgarian artists creating in modern art participate with their works in the exhibition. The selection in Prague includes works by Alexander Angelov, Alexander Valchev, Andrei Vrabchev, Alexander Gerginov, Alexander Yuzef, Velizar Dimchev, Vladislav Georgiev, Georgi Georgiev – jorrras, Denitsa Todorova, Dimo Ivanov, Diliana Manavska, Evgenia Sarbeva, Iv Toshain, Kaloyan Iliev – Kokimoto, Lyuben Petrov, Miriana Mihailova, Michaela Vlaseva, Svetlana Mircheva, Stanimir Genov, Stella Vasileva, Yana Dimitrova.

The exhibition was previously presented in the Gallery Industrialna 11 (Sofia), the 2010 Apollonia Art Festival (Sozopol), and the AKTO Festival for Contemporary Arts in Bitola, Republic of Macedonia.

“Border Situation” is part of the Travelling Exhibitions Programme of the State Institute for Culture at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
