Conference of Bulgarian schools abroad in Madrid

  On Nov 20 – 21, 2010 the Bulgarian Embassy to Madrid held the first ever conference of Bulgarian schools abroad titled «The Bulgarian School in Spain. Culture, Achievements, Challenges”. Organizers were the Association of Bulgarians in Spain “Balkan” in cooperation with the Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad (ABA) and the Bulgarian Embassy. The event had Rosen Ivanov, Head of Agency for Bulgarians Abroad, and Hristo Stoichkov, Head of Association of Bulgarians in Barcelona ‘St. George’ as special guests.

Ambassador Ivan Hristov delivered an opening speech to welcome Conference delegates on behalf of President of R Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov and Minister of Foreign Affairs Nickolay Mladenov.

The agenda featured Konstantin Kodzhabashev, Bulgarian Consulate-General in Valencia, along with heads and teachers at Bulgarian schools in Spain, representatives of NGOs, academic centres and the press. Mrs. Dimitrina Hodzheva, Managing Director of the “Dimitar Berbatov” Foundation presented the institution’s project for digitized e-schoolbooks aiming to help Bulgarian schools abroad.

The Conference was targeted at the enhancement of the intercourse between Bulgarian schools in Spain, the exchange of experience, collaboration, help-each-other initiatives, educational projects and the communications network.

Under the event, an open literature class for mixed student grades (11th and 12th) was delivered, in addition to a folklore programme by Madrid’s“St. Ivan Rilski” School.
