On the Occasion of the Day of the National Cultural Leaders – the exhibition “Alphabet and History” visits Kyustendil
On the occasion of November 1 – the Day of the National Cultural Leaders, the exhibition “Alphabet and History” will be opened at the Revival School at the Regional Library “Emanuil Popdimitrov” – Kyustendil, on October 31, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. The exhibition is a joint project of the State Institute for Culture at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Center for Slavic-Byzantine Studies “Ivan Duychev” at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and the “Elena and Ivan Duychevi” Foundation.
The author of the exhibition is Prof. Dr. Vasya Velinova, and the consultants are Corresponding Member Aksiniya Dzhurova and Prof. Dr. Kazimir Popkonstantinov.
The exhibition presents the role of the Glagolitic and Cyrillic alphabets in the cultural history of the Slavic peoples and shows how writing becomes a guardian of historical memory and national identity. In 24 thematic panels, the development and transformations of the two alphabets are traced, as well as the key place of Bulgaria in the creation and spread of the Cyrillic alphabet.
The exhibition "Alphabet and History" is part of the cultural program of the State Institute for Culture, through which the exhibition visits various cities and institutions in the country and abroad, presenting the rich Bulgarian spiritual and cultural heritage to a wide audience.
Through this event, the State Institute for Culture celebrates the Day of the National Cultural Leaders and sends a message about the power of knowledge, speech and spiritual heritage, which unite us and continue to inspire generations.
